Hi,
  If you've already got a customized .vmdrc file, just add
this to the end of it:
  after idle menu tkcon on

If you don't have a .vmdrc file yet, then copy it from (unix)
  /usr/local/lib/vmd/.vmdrc to ~/.vmdrc

The same applies for Mac and Windows, but the path to the .vmdrc
or vmd.rc (windows) file depends on where you install the program.
