Modems
Modem service is about as basic as you can get - it's slow and universal. The following dial-in services are provided by the University and Beckman.- CCSO Dial-In. Frequently busy, 20 hours/week for free. (Phone Numbers)
- CCSO Premier Service - $5/month for few-no busy signal access to the campus network. Also includes 1-800 service.
- Beckman's Dialup Service - free 56k dialin service for Beckman users. Must sign up BISS in 1714 BI. (333-5483)
- CCSO Tutorials for setting up your computer to dial into the University network
Broadband
Cable Modems and DSL are available in C-U. They both provide much faster connectivity than modems, along with "always-on" access.- Ameritech DSL
- McLeod DSL
- Insight @Home (Cable Modems)
(Note, if you're getting one of these services, you should also get a firewall to protect your machine from outside attack. We have had good exerperience with the Linksys Cable/DSL Router line.)
