Gavin,
  Was the problem specifically related to displaying on a remote machine?
I'd be curious to know what the combination of machines in use was, since
VMD should not crash, but rather give an error message if something is
wrong with the remote display. If you can give me more information I may
be able to improve the behavior in the case you experienced.
