According to your input, you are reassigning a temp 310 every 500 steps,
creating a periodic redistributing of velocities. If anything, I'd except
this to destabilize rather than stabilize, as this will prevent some areas
of your system from equilibrating into an "ordered" state. Unless your
expected salt-bridge cleavage results from a cumulative process (that was
disturbed by reassigning velocities), then I doubt this is the cause.
But that's just my 2 cents.
