Job Submission Tool

Overview:

The BioCoRE Job Submission Tool is designed to help scientists submit files to supercomputer systems or local computer resources for processing, and then bring those files back to the scientist for further analysis.  Job submission requires accounts at supercomputer systems or local resources be established, and the scientist must prepare and load into BioCoRE files that will be needed for the job.

Major Components:

Start a Job:  Helps scientists submit jobs through three options:

• New job:  Assists scientists in beginning a new job.
• Based on prior job: Often, scientists want to repeat a job, with only minor modifications to one or more files involved in the job; this tool allows scientists to call up the history of a prior job, edit files, and resubmit the job.
• Based on a pending job: Helps users design a job that uses output or other files from a job that has yet to be submitted. You can use this tool iteratively, to set up jobs that are based on a sequence of pre-defined pending jobs.
• Job Chain:  Provides simpler setup for a chain of jobs based on a prior job (jobs already run or pending), where only the input filenames are changed.
• Restart stopped job: Jobs may stop before their completion for a variety of reasons, leading the scientist to begin the job submission process all over again; this tool allows scientists to restart a job where it stopped, rather than starting anew.

View & Manage Jobs: Provides summary information about current and prior jobs submitted via BioCoRE, through two options:

• For this project:  Shows job history and status for jobs submitted within the present project.
• All BioCoRE jobs: Shows history and status for all jobs submitted via BioCoRE

Account(s) Manager: Helps in setting up and monitoring accounts at supercomputer and local computer systems:

• Create new account: Provides guidance in setting up a new computer account.
• Edit an existing account: Allows scientists to update information about an account.
• Account(s) queue status: Gathers information about queue status from listed accounts, so that the scientist can make an informed decision about where to submit a job.
